The Mom & Dads - Merry Christmas With


There's nothing like having family around at Christmas time. The reconnects, the laughter, the warmth, the love, the sibling rivalry, the photos, the big family meals, the one too many servings of egg nog, the inappropriate comments, the misunderstandings, the snits, the feuds, the clock watching, the diviing up of the leftovers, the opening of presents, the swap of gift receipts, the rounding up of the noisy kids, and the drive home.

Ahhh, there's no place like home for the holidays...

This album is from The Mom & Dads, a Spokane, Washington music group that specialized in Western styled dance music - polkas and waltzes mainly. I first came across this album in an impulse book I purchased last year at Barnes & Noble called "Horrifically Bad Album Covers". The author of the book is Nick DiFonzo who runs the aptly named Bizarre Records website - some real gems over there!

As soon as I saw the cover, I immediately began searching online and found a copy via eBay. The back cover is just as bad (purple vests are never in fashion) while the music (all instrumental) is oddly catchy. A few of the tracks contain the clippity-clop of horses which adds to the fun!

Stay clear of the 5:11 version of "Auld Lang Syne". It's a gas for about 1:30, then utterly and ultimately deadly.

"Ah, that's more like it - a traditional family Christmas! The house is alive with the scamper of middle-aged men's feet and the smell of newly extruded polyester. Now that's what I call Christmas".

Being a child of the 1970s, I can relate!

Thanks for the heads up regarding the quality of the rip. Ripping anything below 192 from vinyl sounds pretty bad.

Anyway, my parents used to have a couple 8-tracks around of 'The Moms & Dads'. Actually, one of those releases has/had been reissued on CD, but can't recall which one.

Merry Christmas! We've had quite a year here - digitizing all of our Christmas music, a radio show , and remastering yuleblog samplers past.  But I can't complain.   Taking the nine months to get every album and MP3 onto my hard drive (and an external hard drive for backup) was the best decision I may have made in my Christmas life.  To have every song at my fingertips saves me time and led to discoveries of songs I never knew I had.  I thought that what the CD was supposed to do but that only shows you how far in the past I was living. Bruce Woodman Presents Christmas Carols With A Latin Lilt

Once again, here is another rescued piece of vinyl from the collection of Ernie (not Bert) . This was part of three albums Ernie shared with a Latin feel (heck, just look at that title above!) and this was downloaded on November 30 th , 2006 at 8:50 AM. To quoteth Ernest: "I guess I should try to squeeze one more Latin-tinged Christmas album here before I move on to something else. This little goody was recorded by a missionary in South America, and he fills it with local songs for the holidays, as well as some familiar Christmas tunes. There is some narration on there as well, my favorite bit being the introduction at the beginning of the LP. That part may make my Christmas CD this year."
