Bielefelder Kinderchor - Christmas In Germany

Earlier today, I posted the "Christmas In Italy" album from Capitol's "Christmas In" series - the first of three "Christmas In" albums I'm posting today. This is the second post today, taken from the initial set of eight that Capitol released in 1957.

If you're thinking "Christmas In Germany" is your standard Christmas oompah album, you're wrong. It is actually a cut-above-the-rest foreign children's choir Christmas album.

Bielefelder Kinderchor, the only choir listed, has some definite help from other uncredited choruses and soloists - "White Christmas" features a bass singer that would give George Beverly Shea a run for his money!

Side two contains a Christmas medley / full opera - 14 minutes long!

The cover is amazingly striking - I only wish we could get snow to look that beautiful here in Fort Wayne. The greenhouse effect, global warming, climate change, whatever dries it all up in a matter of hours now.

Happy listening...

I still have an album of this children's choir That I bought in 1975. I wish I could find a CD of the same album. It's excellent.

The bass singing with the childrens choir is named Kenneth Spencer. I'm listening to it as I'm typing this, AWESOME.

Captain-

Thanks SO much for this, I must have missed it last year! I have been looking for this album for ages, my Grandma had this and somewhere along the line I lost the copy of it. I could never remember the exact title but knew the cover, and after searching for German Christmas albums for ages, it is a treat to finally see the album again and listen to it. Thanks again!

Thank you for posting this! It's Christmas Eve as I write this. I was listening to the LP version of this I found in my collection this year, only to discover this is the album my family played when we were kids decorating the Christmas tree. So it has special memories. What a joy it was to discover it on your blog. Thank you.

Thank you for posting this! Every Christmas I think of this album, as I grew up listening to it, and every year I was disappointed that it cannot be found in iTunes, etc. This year, I searched for it and accidentally downloaded some other version. Wow, that was disappointing. Finally, I've got it!

Thank you so much for posting this! I have the Christmas in Germany album, but have had some trouble finding someone to record it to CD for me. It was Mom's and my Oma's favorite album and I remember listening to it often every Christmas. I look forward to playing it for my boys for many Chrismtases to come.

I just ordered a mint condition album of Christmas in Germany Capitol Records off Amazon...my favorite album for Xmas from my lost youth early 1960's...I hope to have it "ripped" to a CD by some nerd here when I receive it....no other album comes close to recapturing xmas in my youth...and I never did get that road race set, damn!!!

Where can I find the nerd to rip it to CD??? I have the LP and years ago bought the cassette tape but it has gotten lost. I've bought various German Christmas CDs but none, absolutely none, are even close to this awesome recording! I so agree with all of the previous comments and my children, now in their 20s, want to have a CD of this album since they don't have "record players" =:-)

Thank you for posting this! This was my mom's favorite Christmas music from when she was a child. She has the cassette recording, but wanted the CD version. She's been looking for it for years and tonight we found your post! On Christmas Eve, no less! Thank you!
