We Three Bings: Vital Music's N.Y. Trash Xmas Comp

I first encountered this album at a record show back in 2003 - the asking price was $75 and it featured some great artwork on its insert and covers. Some time in the last two years, I found this album at another blog along the sharity network who offered this album. When I opened the zip file, I had the music but very little artwork.

I found this on eBay earlier this year and overpaid for a copy (ouch!). But I had copy number 671 of 1000 and I'm proud to present the entire album with all artwork included.

There's some amazing raw punk and garage Christmas music in this comp - some of which is definitely NSFW. The raw power on this album is truly something no other Christmas album has - try some of this when you want to break up the holiday party at 3 AM!

Happy listening...

Yee haw! I think I was probably the guy who shared it at falalala's. It's something I ran across a long time ago, and had been looking for Rats of Unusual Size's Santa Claus Is Coming. Hilarious.

Risser - Thanks for originally posting this - what number of 1000 is yours?

I bought my copy when I was working at a record store in
St. louis in the early 90's I think min is numbered 575 or somthing close to that I will have to check. I used a lot of stuff off of this in my early cassette days.

I banged the hell out of this comp back in the days when I DJ'd at WFIT-FM.(circa 1989/90) Mr. Rats of Unusual Size, Jim F laid that slab on our radeeo station. I actually batted my eyelashes and scored a personal copy--still have it in a box somewhere. Back Door Santa is 'precious.'

Mike - I remember cassettes! Lots of fun mixing those...

Kimgerly - Mike's got 575, I've got 671, what number is yours?

Anyone else got a number to report?

We have # 660 here at WNYU in nyc. Found it when i was looking through the stacks for stuff to play on my christmas show, and then found this blog while googling for more information. Great compilation!

I was host of a weekly radio show at Western Michigan University's student radio station WIDR 89.1 back in the late '80s and into the '90s. I hosted Rats of Unusual Size with a live performance in the studio during my show back in 1990 as a teaser for their show later that night at Kalamazoo's venerable Club Soda.

As a gift of appreciation Jim Fourniadis gave me a copy of this album. It is explicitly stamped "NOT A COLLECTORS ITEM" on the front of the album, so it escaped the limited edition numbering. Green vinyl record inside features songs that are proudly toted out each winter holiday season around my house!

I played this on my radio show on WCWM in at the College of William & Mary in '90 or so, but remember screeching the needle as I whipped a song off the air when I heard "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, with no Blacks, Puerto Ricans, or Jews." I figured it was safest to take it off, but I never got to listen to the whole song after to find out if it was a racist song or a satirical anti-racism song. The zip isn't working for me here. Anyone got any insights on the track I'm talking about?

Okay. A quick Google search reveals that the White Christmas song was by George Tabb, a lefty Jew. So, now I feel like a tool for having taken it off the air! There were other people in the studio, and I'd never heard the record before, so when I suddenly heard that lyric, I just figured, okay, there aren't many things I'd ever censor on my show, but racism is one of them.
All apologies to Tabb and to Punk Rock.

I used this as a mainstay for my "Alternative Xmas Show" on WHUS-FM, along with the Midnight Records Xmas albums we had back in 1988-1993.

Like another person on here I interviewed the Rats of Unusual Size before they did a concert (along with several other bands)hosted by the station on my afternoon alt. rock show. Lots of fun, and they were good guys; too bad they never gave me a copy of the compilation, in fact this record went out of print like a week after the first xmas it was released, as one of my listeners tried to get it and couldn't, even from Bleecker Bob's and the like.

Wow, so many nice comments. Jim here from the Rats, also the producer of the comp as well as the part owner of Vital Music records in those days.

Glad so many people liked and still own it. Irony is I don't even own a copy anymore! If anyone still has a working link to the mp3's I would sure appreciate it.

Hey Jeph!! Jim Fourniadis here from Vital and the Rats. So nice to hear so many comments about our little bit of yuletide nonsense. Glad to know so many of you folks remember us and still own copies. The funny thing is the ones stamped not a collectors item were actually a limited 200 count reprint, so it was even MORE of a collectors item! Ironically I don't even have a copy of the music anymore, much less the record so if any of you have a working link to an mp3, I would sure appreciate it. Ho ho ho ....

11 years late to the party...

I too played this as a DJ at a college station.
Sadly my cassette of it failed long ago.

Could the link be re-upped or some other kind soul share?

THANK YOU.
